Shawlands Tea is a Pure Ceylon Tea. It is a single estate tea that comes from the Uva ‘medium’ tea growing region of Sri Lanka. The tea estate lies on the southern slopes of Madulsima hill range at an altitude of 792 m to 1,173 m. These relatively long, unbroken leaf of light brown colour with a strong spicy pepper-like aroma. As a result, it makes a bright red-brown cup of tea full of brisk and dynamic flavor. Loaded with tones of citrus, cinnamon, mint and frozen rose hip, it gives a long citrus-like astringent after taste.
This region is best known for its uniqueness in climate that does something astounding to the tea plants. Warm days and cold nights cause a disruption to the tea plant’s natural process of photosynthesis. As a result, the chemical structure of the plants experience a natural alteration. This abnormal phenomenon gives teas from Uva region their distinctive natural minty/menthol flavour. Thereby making Uva teas to be generally highly sought after by tea connoisseurs all over the world.
Shawlands Tea is enjoyed best as an evening tea. It’s citric taste best preserved by brewing 1 to 2 teaspoons in boiling water for 3 to 5 minutes and sipped without sugar.
